About EdCamp. Edcamp is an "unconference designed specifically for teachers and their needs." What is an "unconference" you ask? Well, instead of organizers driving the conference content, the attendees drive the content. Attendees are encouraged to engage in organic, authentic discussions rather than presenters with power points droning on for hours (no offense to power points). Instead of having sponsors set up booths to sell you things, sponsors give to the Edcamp in general to make real learning happen for you - FREE OF CHARGE!
Edcamp derives its values and quality from the key principles of #connectedlearning and intends to attract as many "educator innovators" as possible into one place.
There are 6 major principles that make EdCamp Edcamp: * they are free! * they are non-commerical and have an exhibitor-/vendor-free atmostphere * they are hosted by anyone who wants to further the Edcamp mission * they have sessions determined the day of the event *they have sessions that can be presented by anyone with the passion or knowledge * they rely on the "2-feet" concept - your feet take you to the sessions you want to experience To find out more about an Edcamp near you, check out their Wikispace site and calendar!
About WriteNow! The North Star of Texas Writing Project, a local site of the National Writing Project, hopes to provide educators, districts, and stakeholders with solutions for teaching today's writers. We are passionate about how writing can change the individual from the inside out, by providing opportunities, experiences, and skills development that help generate patterns of behavior and change to impact a student's. and educator's, writing journey. Our main tenets, or "points of our star," include modeling, authenticity, empathy, dialogue, inquiry, revisioning. and deep content learning. All of these values incorporate into one overarching commitment: building a community of writers. We are committed to the Edcamp mission of helping provide a unique unconference experience with a focus on anything related to writing, and the teaching or learning of it. This may include digital or print, making or journaling. We are open to whatever you want to bring to our Edcamp - WriteNow! As with any NWP local site, we are affiliated with a university for our work, and have partnered with one of our sponsors, North Texas Council for Teachers of English Language Arts (NTCTELA), which is a local affiliate of NCTE, to put on this event. We'd like to thank both The University of North Texas, NTCTELA and our hosting district, Lewisville ISD, for collaborating with us on this project! Let's all WriteNow!
